Overview
Transform thrift store finds into on-trend home decor for your porch or home using paint.
Prep furniture and set up spray tent
Prepare bamboo and rattan furniture pieces for painting by cleaning with a degreaser and then wiping clean with a wet cloth. Sand lightly to remove any peeling paint and to rough the surface for painting. Use a tack cloth to remove any dust and debris.
Assemble the Wagner Studio Spray tent.
Step #1
Place furniture in tent
Place the furniture inside for painting.
Step #2
Add liner to sprayer cup
Place a plastic liner in the Wagner FLEXiO 4000 sprayer cup.
Step #3
Fill with primer/paint
Fill with primer or paint of your choice. (We used a high-gloss, paint-and-primer-in-one furniture paint to save work time.)
Step #4
Attach detail nozzle
Attach the detail finish nozzle to the sprayer.
Step #5
Adjust the nozzle
Step #6
Adjust control and pressure controls
Adjust the material flow control and the air pressure and make a few test sprays on a piece of cardboard or paper before painting the furniture.
Step #7
Apply paint
Apply two coats of paint to the bamboo and rattan furnishings, allowing to dry completely between coats. You may find it helpful to turn the furniture upside down to ensure paint coverage on all surfaces and angles.
If you notice any yellowing or bleed-through after the first coat of paint, you may need to seal first with Shellac, then prime and paint as normal.
