Tips for Painting a House Exterior

The biggest roadblock for most people when it comes to painting your home is simply fear – it can be intimidating if you’ve never tackled a project of this scale. However, painting exterior walls isn’t all the different from painting inside, and you’ll find that if you use a high-quality paint sprayer the job will go much faster than you might expect! Here are a few tips to help make the job easier.

Prep work is key! Be sure to pressure wash your entire home before beginning, repair any damage to the siding, and add caulk any spots that need a fresh layer. Once your house has fully dried from being washed, tape off the foundation, windows, and anywhere that you don’t want paint to get.

It may be easiest for you to work on one side of the house at a time – it allows for easier break points if you need to head inside for a bit, and gives you the satisfaction of seeing the house making progress a little faster!

The Control Pro 130 is incredibly easy to use. Simply follow the included instructions to set it up, pour up to a gallon at a time in the tank, and pull the trigger to paint. You’ll want to move your arm relatively quickly as you work, and stand close to your house to reduce overspray.

Paint Siding and Brick

Once you’ve painted the siding, you can also paint the brick on your house using your Control Pro 130! If you do, be sure to grab a high-quality roller and back roll the paint immediately after applying – this will help ensure that the paint gets into all of the crevices of the brick and will leave you with a smoother finish. Most masonry paints require two coats, so be sure to refer to the directions on your paint can to ensure proper coverage.

For this project, it took about four days of painting on and off (for a total of approximately 17 hours) to get the house completely transformed. It cost a fraction of what it would have been to have it professionally done, and the end result is absolutely stunning.
