Overview
Painting your garage door a bright, bold color can increase your curb appeal and make your home look refreshed and modern. Kara, a Wagner employee, recently helped her friend paint spray her garage door. It went from brown to white in a flash thanks to the Wagner FLEXiO 5000 Paint Sprayer.
Instructions
PREPARE YOUR GARAGE DOOR FOR PAINTING
Kara and her friend started by preparing the space. They masked off the area around the garage door with painter’s plastic to ensure they didn’t accidentally paint spray stone work, siding, etc. Not only does this make the painting project go smoother, it also makes cleanup much faster. Before painting, it’s also important to repair the door if there’s any damage and thoroughly clean it to remove dust and grime.
Step #1
GET THE PAINT SPRAYER READY
Next, grab your FLEXiO 5000 Paint Sprayer and get ready to paint! Make sure you’re using an exterior paint that’s suited for your garage door material. Kara’s friend chose a nice, bright white color that really accentuates the rest of the home exterior! Adjust the settings on the sprayer accordingly and be sure to practice the spray pattern on a piece of cardboard beforehand.
Kara and her friend chose to use the iSpray nozzle, which is great for painting broad surfaces like walls, fences, and garage doors! The FLEXiO 5000 also comes with a Detail Finish nozzle, which is ideal for fine finishing on cabinets, trim and furniture.
Step #2
START PAINTING!
Now you’re ready to paint! Start at one end of the garage door and apply the paint moving the spray gun in vertical motions as you move along the garage door.
It’s also recommended to overlap your passes to ensure even coverage.
The FLEXiO 5000 is an HVLP paint sprayer that features a turbine base, which keeps the weight on the ground instead of your hand. Kara and her friend breezed through this project!
Step #3
CHECK IN ON YOUR NEIGHBORS
While Kara and her friend were painting the garage door, the neighbor across the street was also using a Wagner Home Decor sprayer to repaint a bed frame! What a coincidence! See our how to paint furniture guide for more details.
Step #4
ALLOW THE FRESHLY PAINT SPRAYED GARAGE DOOR TO DRY!
Follow the drying instructions on your paint can and once the garage door is completely dry don’t forget to admire your hard work!
